Acclaimed Alt-Country Guitarist Closes Festival
Expect poetic lyrics and complex guitar work when Alejandro Escovedo brings his alt-country sound to the Three Rivers Arts Festival Main Stage at 7:30 pm on Sunday, June 22, 2008. All Three Rivers Arts Festival Main Stage performances are free and open to the public.
Some of this year's Festival artists are young and on the rise, but Alejandro Escovedo is a musician with a history. From his work with the punk band The Nuns in the mid 1970s to his current solo work, Escovedo has had a long, storied career. He has managed to maintain his creative drive despite a near-fatal battle with Hepatitis C that prevented him from performing as scheduled at the 2006 Three Rivers Arts Festival.
Escovedo's most recent album, The Boxing Mirror, exemplifies his personal fusion of punk, garage rock, country and traditional rock-n-roll, all set to thoughtful lyrics, which speak to the human condition. Released in 2006 and produced by John Cale, a founding member of the Velvet Underground, The Boxing Mirror showcases all of Escovedo's influences, encompassing the pain and beauty of the human experience.
Elizabeth Reiss, Festival Executive Director said, "We're thrilled to have Alejandro Escovedo closing the Three Rivers Arts Festival this year, healthy and better than ever."
